The Story of Jack starts long before his historic beanstalk climb. In fact, before he met the mighty giant, he frequently traveled the greenways trails in Plymouth, IN.
One afternoon before making it to the market, he came upon an odd looking man holding a potted plant. From the tails of his tuxedo to the plaid jeans, this guy was definitely trying to set some fads. Although Jack would have stopped to chat with this dapper gentleman, he had to make it to the market before it closed. Jack nodded at the man and thought to himself, “I bet he’d have some interesting stories, but I gotta get food…”, but just then, the man quickly grabs his arm, dips his head and squints up at Jack. The boy would be more frightened if the old man wasn’t so funnily dressed. Hesitantly, the old man stretches his arm passed the boy and points to the pond. His voice barely screeches out the words, “Here, set this where you want this fruitful tree to grow” he hands him the plant, “out there, out there, close to the pond…”
Jack stammers back “Yes?”, although when he looked back at the man, he was no longer there. Jack was frozen for a moment, staring at the plant in his hand, but decided to shake of the strange experience and continue on his way to the market. A few steps later, he noticed his shoe was untied. As he knelt down to tie it, he placed the plant on the ground to his side. To his surprise, the tree instantly started growing. Up and up, it grew taller and filled with walnuts! After he filled his pockets with the bounty falling from the tree, and before he headed back down the path to the market, he pinned a note to tree. It simply read, “Free Food For All. -Jack”
The note is no longer there, but I hear you can still find a little something hidden in the area.
