Overlooks Balcony Falls on the James River.
Park on Route 130/501 at the historic marker overlook. Beware of broken glass and trash that slobs have tossed over the side. The cache is only .15 miles from the parking area with a moderate downward hike to the site. It is located amongst several rock outcrops. See hint for specifics as this is well hidden. Great view of the gorge! Immediately below you is Balcony Falls, a class 3 to class 4 rapid depending on water volume. The county line sign was moved to the correct location but was once signed as being at this parking area.
Cache is a 30 caliber ammo box. Changed terrain rating to "4" due to complaints. Many people have said the terrain should be rated tougher. The walk is short and terrain is somewhat steep. THERE IS NO TRAIL! Stay along the spine of the ridge on the way down. Do not leave this ridge as the cache is located in the cliffs above the river. If you just have to continue down to the river stay to the left(facing the river) of the ridge. The right side has cliffs that would have to be negotiated.
