Dumoulin Pioneer Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Xplorer and Ramblin' Rose: Still quite wet in the area and since we aren't sure when we will next be passing by here, we will archive this one! Perhaps a different cacher will take this neat historical spot!

Geocache Description:

Small historical pull-out just before the border! TRUCKER FRIENDLY

New small container with new logsheets, pencil, and swag. Please re-hide as well or better than you find it! The first church in the northwest was built about 300 feet from the historical marker by Father Joseph Dumoulin in 1818 along with a school and cemetery. The mission was abandoned, then rebuilt and later moved to Pembina. The cemetery with its pioneers remained and you can visit it if you want to take the time. It appears as if the first burial took place in 1849. For more information: http://56755.blogspot.ca/2007/08/history-of-pembina-metis-cemetery.html
