Geocache Description:

In The Prospect at Ross-on-Wye

All visitors to Ross should go to The Prospect for the superb view over the horse shoe bend of the River Wye.

The first water supply to Ross was pumped to a fountain here from the river by John Kyrle, "The Man of Ross" in the 17th Century. He also extended the imposing church spire nearby and donated the tenor bell amongst many charitable acts.

The gardens were laid out in their present form following the building of the Royal Hotel.

The Prospect is a special place for me as I used to push my mother here in a wheel chair during her last years. A seat at the viewpoint commemorates my parents and one of the houses by the river below the viewpoint is where I lived briefly as a child. I later moved a short distance away but still often visited the Prospect and ate the beech mast which now feeds the many squirrels. 36 years ago, I was married in the Church adjacent.

The Cache
The cache is able to hold geo-tat and trackables but be careful as this is a high muggle area! There is no pen in the cache so bring your own.

Please make sure that it is well hidden as many people visit here and grounds are carefully maintained.

The main access is via the churchyard but their is also a gateway from the Royal Hotel grounds.

Excavations recently revealed Roman remains but they have now been hidden again under tarmac in the corner of the park.
