Geocache Description:

Now a pet, nice tarmac path all the way last few metres on grass, Dog & Pushchair friendly, Lots of Muggles about!!

Yes it’s a an Inch, "The North Inch" Perth must be the smallest city in the world as it fits between two inches.
This "Inch" is not the measure of length, the twelfth part of a foot, commonly subdivided into halves, quarters, eights, sixteenths, etc. Not the one that was also formerly divided into twelve parts, called lines, and originally into three parts, called barleycorns, its length supposed to have been determined from three grains of barley placed end to end lengthwise.

Inch can also mean an area of low-lying land beside a river. Which is where this cache is.

In 1396 the Battle of the Clans took place on the North Inch of Perth. This was a gladiatorial fight to the death to settle a long running feud between the powerful Chattan and Mackay clans. 30 warriors from each formed before Robert III. All Mackays died, except one who swam the Tay, to the loss of 10 Chattans. Legend has it that the Chattans were a man short so a local saddler was paid to take the place. He survived, having joined the winning side!

King James IV played golf on the North Inch 1502, The Inch still has a Golf Course.

The first mention of horseracing at Perth was on the North Inch which was the first running of The Silver Bell in 1613.

Bonnie Prince Charlie is said to have mingled with the crowd at the races on the Inch.

A 7 Inch meteorite fell on the North Inch on May 17, 1830 at 1230 during a thunderstorm!
Looking at www.old-maps.co.uk for Perth spotted Witches Burning Spot!! 1623 marked on map, done a few calulation and plotted the position on Fugawi as N56 24.300 W003 25.818 which is ony 60 metres away from this cache, went and had a look there is a mound at the end of a row of tree's, 3 People (witches) were strangled and burned for healing on that spot in July 1623.

Enjoy! watch out for the golf balls or is it a meteor!!
