This cache is located on a deserted island, but you won't find
Gilligan and the Skipper anywhere nearby.
The island is the only privately held island within the confines
of New York City. This island was once owned by the man who owned
the New York Yankees, several owners before George Steinbrenner. It
used to contain a bungalow colony, but that is long since gone. Now
the only inhabitants are seagulls and rats.
The cache is located in a clear food jar, it is NOT on the
ground, you need to look up.
One of the other nearby islands used to contain a hospital, and
it is where TB Marry was put in quarantine, it is also near the
site of one the worst maritime disasters in US History.
Use care accessing this area, and make sure you come ashore on
the correct island. Hint: if you find yourself heading toward the
prison on Rikers Island you are wrong! The cache is not located on
Rikers, don't go there!
This area is a bird sanctuary and nesting ground. Please tread
carefully so as not to destroy nesting sites. The cache is located
near the perimiter of the island it is not necessary to go deep
into the woods.
This cache was featured, very briefly, on ABC National TV news

UPDATE June 2006. Hey Guys. Its not really cool be launching
from the Pepsi Plant or the Oil place at the end of 149th St. A
much better place to launch is the new PUBLIC BOAT LAUNCH being
built as part of a new park. Its only a little further away. Do a
google map search on: viele Ave & tiffany St Bronx NY.
You should really Stay off of NBI. The cops tie-up their boats
to the dock on the East side, they will arrest you for going there.
The reason the Cache is not on NBI is that I got hassled by the
cops 5 years ago trying to land there, with the TV crew in tow.
Also.... The far East end of the Pepsi plant is a US Coast Guard
Harbor monitoring station. Note the Radar dish and video camera on
the corner of the building. One more reason NOT to launch from
there, and not to go too close to NBI island when you are in view
of the video camera. Go to the public boat launch a little further
away...
