This cache replaces the original "Outta the Park", which first
disappeared, then had the spot where it was hiding bulldozed to
make a new ball diamond in the area. Previous finders may notice
similarites between the two, but we hope it is still enjoyable to
find. The best place to park to pick up both this cache and "Edge
of the Park"
(GC20XKY) is: N 43 57.819 W 89 49.442. There is a drainage
ditch in the area that fills quite full after a heavy rain or the
spring melt. The bottom of the empty ditch may be damp also. Take
this into consideration in your approach to this cache.
In the middle 1970s, benefactor Burton Morris donated land in an
undeveloped area in the City of Adams for a Little League Park. The
baseball diamond and the tennis courts were the first things to go
up in the park, and later came some playground equipment and some
wood-chipped walking trails, along with two more playing fields. A
picnic/gathering shelter was also built, and the ball diamonds got
upgrades with dugouts and scoreboards. Summer-use bathrooms get a
workout during ball season.
With all of the work that has gone on in the park and
surrounding area, the trails are mostly gone now, but a new trail
has been considered to connect an assisted living center and the
newer senior housing units to the community center/library and the
shopping center (in which the first store opened in 1998).
This place is busy most evenings from May through July, with all
the diamonds being used for Little League and softball practice
and/or games, and there are often gatherings at the shelter or
tennis players on the courts. There are three parking areas in Burt
Morris Park, all of which are within easy walking distance to this
cache. Coordinates for the closest parking area are included as a
waypoint below.
Burt Morris continues to provide for the well-being of the City
of Adams,
and it is for him this park is named.
