The cache is not hidden inside the fortress!

Normally you visit Nya Älvsborg via excursion boat, but if you go their with a boat of your own,
respect that you are not allowed to moor at the bridges!

1653-1668, Nya Älvsborg (the new fortress) was erected, on Kyrkogårdsholmen,
meant to rule over the sea entrance to Göteborg.
When the war against Denmark broke out in 1644, King Christian IV thought, once again, to occupy Älvsborg (the old fortress).
He tried to sail pass the old fortress, under Dutch flag, in to Göteborg. The artifice was discovered and King Christian had to retreat again.
Instead he tried to countersink the river and built a fortress works on Kyrkogårdsholmen or "Gottenbrille" as he called the islet after its shape, reminding of ancient pair of glasses. Those fortifications were meant to protect the countersink. The Swedes on their hand erected a redoubt on the hill Billingen.
In a letter, from Göteborg, to the Chancellor it was reported the 13th of April, 1644, that:
"the Jute King had got made a redoubt on an islet in the Swedish archipelago, named Kyrkogårdsholmen, where he stays with his fleet and had the 11th tried how far he could fire from there. With weight he reached over the hill Käringberget, and with scrap iron in to land under the same hill".
However there was a report reaching King Christian, that the Dutch navy squadron, which was awaited to support the Swedes were getting closer to Göteborg.
The Danes, who feared to get their entire fleet enclosed in the fiord, sailed prompt on the afternoon on then 28th of April 1644 after destroying the erected redoubts and blockhouses.
I placed this cache on Nya Älvsborg while I attended a historical excursion on the 2nd of October, 2004, that the East Indiaman Götheborg’s Society of Friends made, to the fortress and later to the ship Götheborg.
The cache is a small transparent plastic PET-tube
and had the following content from start:
- Log stripe
- Pencil
- Stash note
- A picture of my Smashing GeoCaching Dogs (the SGCD) (NB, not a trading object! If you want a picture of the SGCD send me an e-mail and I will send you a picture)
The cache also includes a special "FTF-bonus", a double TRISS lottery ticket!
