Geocache Description:

Vattenkraftscache i Småland

The cache is placed in the forests of Småland, close to the river Helgeån. Until the beginning of the 20th century, there was industry and workshops at the place, using the waterfall as a resource. It also held a jail in the basement of the main building. Nowadays, almost only ruins remain. But the place holds a small hydroelectric plant (160 kW) and a campsite for canoers. If you paddle down Helgeån in canoe, you have to carry your canoe over land here because of the rapids. If you feel too tired, you can stay overnight and carry your canoe the next day.

There is a hiking route nearby, but it is currently closed because of the hurricane Gudrun which hit the area in 2005. As everywhere in Southern Småland, a lot of trees are down, and much work has to be done.

There are very nice signboards with explanations of all the buildings. There is even a handwritten page with the statistics of the waterplant.

The box is a 1.6 liter Curver.
