This is a straightforward cache that will take you to a rather nice part of the Icknield way path between Newmarket and Snailwell.
The cache is positioned to give you a view of the signal box from where the cache takes its name Chippenham Junction
The railway line splits at this point and connects Ipswich and Ely with a branch line to Cambridge. As a family we play on part of the Al Bahathri racing gallops by the all weather surface. We had the idea for the cache when all three children were running across the grass waving at the approaching train. This could have been a scene straight from The Railway Children!
If you get the timing right then you will see two trains crossing here and you will be almost guaranteed to get a wave from the driver if that's your thing :)
Plenty of grass to run around on after 1pm when the horses have finished. A few dog walkers, but otherwise you will have the place to yourself any afternoon or evening. You may wish to try Bud & Chesney a little further up the line.
PLEASE BE MINDFUL OF THE HORSES IF YOU VISIT IN THE MORNINGS AND STICK TO THE PATH. It is more relaxed in the afternoons and evenings.
