Another homage to the astronomically great, 200 mile wide cache series, Northern CA Solar System by TeamJiffy. Shoemaker-Levy was a comet of Jupiter. NO COMET CODE
THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE LISTED COORDINATES. See below for way, way advanced trajectory math. Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 was an unusual discovery: In 1993, the Shoemakers and Levy found a train of glowing comet chunks. In the previous year, the comet’s decaying orbit brought it close enough to Jupiter (~1.5 planetary radii) that it broke up into fragments, headed for a final collision with Jupiter in 1994. http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/sl9/background.html Fragments (lettered A through W), struck Jupiter from July 16 to 22. The Jupiter strikes were observed by the Galileo space probe, the Hubble Space Telescope, and Earth bound observatories. This was a unique viewing of the demise of a comet. http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/sl9/image101.html Epilogue: Eugene Shoemaker died in a 1997 vehicle accident. Two years later, his ashes were delivered to the Moon on the Lunar Prospector. ROCKET SCIENCE MATH: From the posted latitude .040 minute decimal portion, SUBTRACT 0.0xx, where xx equals the number of lettered fragments, A to W, with no I or O, but with replacements named P2 and Q2. Yes, that’s .040 - .0xx, and x and x are different digits. 04/07/10 - Cache transferred to MotorBug 09/21/10 - Cache transferred to kindredlaugh
