Geocache Description:

This is technically an offset cache, but since it involves something a little different to get you from WP1 to the final, it is published as a Mystery/Puzzle cache.

The posted coordinates will take you to the cemetery maintenance building. On the building, you will find a directory of all the individuals who have made their eternal home here.

To find the cache:
On the directory, find Bernard Pockat. Then, there are two ways to find this cache.

1. The easy way: Using the map on the directory, go find Mr. Pockat in the cemetery. (White posts mark the lanes on the map.) To the left side of Mr. Pockat's stone you will see a tall cedar tree. In there, you will find the cache you seek. There is no need to bother Mr. Pockat's stone or grave!

2. The hard way: count up the number of letters in Mr. Pockat's first name. Multiply this number by 10. Add 9. Add the result to the number of years in a century. The result = A. Count up the letters in Mr. Pockat's last name. Multiply this number by 44.167 and round to the nearest whole number. This number = B. Now, using your GPS, project a waypoint at A feet B degrees from WP1. At that second waypoint, you will find the cache.

There are many rural cemeteries in Wisconsin. Geocaching is a great way to get out and see some of these remote places, discover some interesting and unique markers, and to help ensure that those that have gone before us are not forgotten. With cemetery caches, the cache container is not hidden on or connected in any way to any grave site or marker. Occasionally, some information from a marker may be used to obtain final cache coordinates. Please be respectful of the cemetery and anyone visiting it.

About the WSQ-SCC Series

WSQ stands for "Wisconsin Spirit Quest, which is used by many Wisconsin cemetery cache owners. SCC stands for Shawano County Cemeteries, and the number between the two represents the location of the cemetery on a master map, which you can find by clicking HERE. The name after SCC is the name of the Township, then comes the name of the cemetery.

There are 99 cemeteries in Shawano County, and nearly all now have geocaches in them, bringing new visitors to these places to remember those who have gone before us. You just might find a long-lost relative or two.

These caches are designed to be easy to find, are usually a container and log only, and focus on “forgotten,” out-of-the-way, rural cemeteries. Also, any multi-stage caches are designed to bring you to special features of a particular cemetery.
