Geocache Description:

Congratulations goes to BlueMotmot for the FTF!!

This is a long hike from Horseshoe Lake, but the views of the park and landscape along the way are fantastic.

Recently a few of us went on a hike that took us from the parking lot at Horseshoe Lake to an area some distance past this location. At a leisurely pace we arrived where this cache is hidden in 3.5 hours and had an altitude gain of around 1100 feet. From Monkey Face Rock the climb is fairly gentle except for a few areas.

The hide location is out on a small point with a bit of scrambling on some rocks required.

In the bottom middle of the photo you can see my GPSr taking measurements (I got down to 6.5 ft of accuracy). The container, a peanut butter jar, is hidden at the base of the tree just to the left of the GPSr.

While we saw very little wildlife, we did see some coyote and bear scat along the way. This area is also a hunting area at different times of the year, so use discretion when you decide to head up here. Remember to bring lots of water and your camera. The ability to take panorama images would be a plus!

--- The terrain difficulty is based mostly on the distance and elevation gain. The minimal climbing/decending required to get to the location would probably rate a 3 to 3.5. When you get to the end of the park there is a green gate that you must climb over to enter the BCCER. From the gate you'll be just over one mile from the cache ---
