Event #1: Educational event - Sat Sept 12 from 9:30 am to
11:30 am, Environmental Horticulture room 146 (near posted
coords): This will consist of a lecture by Hynr (that's me, Heiner
Lieth) on the use of GSAK. The first
hour will be aimed at intermediate users (users of GSAK who are
wanting to learn more of its capabilities. During the second hour
some more advanced uses of GSAK will be discussed, partly as
prepared lecture, partly as Question and Answers. Around 10:30
Dennis of 2Dee2Dee will talk about making routes and using those in
GSAK filters. I will also present some information on the new GPSr
that DeLorme has on the market and how to feed it with GSAK..If you
have particular topics you would like to see discussed, then please
suggest them in your "Will Attend" log.
Note that last year at a similar event this classroom room was
filled to capacity; thus be aware that priority for seating will be
for those who have posted a "Will Attend" (below) and have
indicated how many of the team are planning to attend the
educational event in the classroom.
Event #2: Social event - Sat Sept 12 from 11:30 am to 3 pm,
Environmental Horticulture (at the posted coords): This will be
the typical geocaching event but without any grills. Bring a picnic
blanket and/or lawn chairs. Please bring food to share. If it is
too complicated for you to make a dish at home to bring, then do
note that the following Davis caches come equipped with nearby food
shopping (including, in each case, a deli): GCM599, GCPZK3,
GC1931R. Please bring prepared foods or foods that require minimal
preparation on site (there is a microwave oven). There are serving
tables but no picnic tables for dining. There is plenty of shady
lawn area..
Announcements and raffle around 1:30pm. Please consider bringing
an item for the raffle; proceeds go to defer costs for this event
and future events
Dogs are allowed on campus but need to be under your control at
all times and be compatible other other dogs and lots of people..
Note that Davis does have a leash and pooper-scooper law and it is
enforced.
You might bring your bike and do your caching by bike (rack up a
dozen cachefinds without burning any gasoline).
Parking: See additional waypoints for parking
opportunities. There is no parking enforcement on Saturdays so you
don't need a permit (even if it seems to imply that it would be
good to buy a permit).
Cost: as with all RCGDS geocaching events, there is no
cost to attend. However, a donation to the RCGDS kitty is
appreciated to help defray the costs of supplies. Alternately,
purchasing raffle tickets will support the same cause.
RSVP: Tell us (1) how many in your group Will Attend and
how many of those plan to attend the class, (2) what you are
planning to bring for the potluck. Those coming for Event 1 should
be present by 9:30; those coming for Event 2 should arrive between
11 and 11:30. If you would like to help with clean up at the end of
the event, then please let us know.

It is a loose-knit group of friends, strangers and strange friends.
You are automatically a member of it by virtue of reading this!
Never has making-friends been so easy. On the second Saturday of
