WELCOME TO CINEMA VALLEY!

Being a long time resident of Simi Valley and Movie Fan, and after seeing the small signs with cryptic names and arrows all over the place. I decided it was time to start a series of caches dedicated to the many movies and television shows that have been filmed in Simi Valley

Located so near to Hollywood (Well within the T.M.Z.), Simi Valley has long been a convenient location for the film industry dating back to the 1930's. It has become so popular with Hollywood it has earned the nickname "Cinema Valley". Simi Valley and the surrounding hills have been the site of many television series, including the long running television series Gunsmoke, Little House on the Praire and M*A*S*H. Simi Valley has also been the location of some of the biggest film like Poltergeist, Men in Black, Creature from the black Lagoon, Jurasic Park, Thor and The Big Lebowski.

FUN FACT: For those of you who don't know it TMZ isn't just a TV show and website. It means Thirty Mile Zone. Which is a long standing industy term for the spheare of influance of Hollywood. Where the Economy, Culture and daily life is effected by the Film Industry.

WELCOME TO CORRIGANVILLE!

This is the front gate of the old Corriganville Movie Ranch. Many movies and TV show were shot here over the years, including Creature from the Black Lagoon, Star Trek, The Loan Ranger and Gunsmoke.

Corriganville Movie Ranch was a working film studio and movie ranch for outdoor location shooting. The ranch, owned by actor and stuntman Ray "Crash" was built in 1937. The small man-made lake featured a bunker with windows that would allow underwater scenes to be shot. Estimates of the number of movies and television shows filmed there range from the hundreds to the thousands.

Just some of the movies and TV shows Filmed here:

Bonanza, Adventures of Superman, How the West Was Won, The Adventures of Robin Hood,Have Gun - Will Travel, The Lone Ranger, Wagon Train, Jungle Moon Men, Billy the Kid vs. Dracula and Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter! you can check out a better listing at (visit link)

In 1965 Ray Corrigan sold the property, to comedian Bob Hope. A housing subdivision called Hopetown was developed and built on a parcel near the park entrance. In 1970 the ranch was swept by fire. One of the last movies filmed there was Vigilante Force (1976). In 1979 another fire destroyed virtually all of the remaining structures.

In 1988, 190 acres of land comprising the principal working areas of the original Corriganville Ranch were purchased by the City of Simi Valley for use as a Regional Park.
