Southdale Square
Back in about 1964, when our family first moved to the area, the closest grocery store (Tait's) and drug store (Snyder Drug), and not much else were at Southdale Square. The big mall, Southdale Shopping Center, was just down the road, and we loved biking there, for lots more indoor space to play. As kids we rose our bikes to Southdale Square to pick up a few groceries or sundries for our family. We never locked our bikes then. One day, I strapped a paper sack of groceries from Tait's on the back of my bike and parked in front of Snyder's to pick up something inside. When I returned outside, my bike and groceries were gone - stolen in seconds! Since that day, I have always locked my bike, no matter what.
Wow, Southdale Square sure looks different today! So many shops and restaurants have come and gone - remember Pannekoeken Huis? What's your favorite store or restaurant here at Southdale Square, from the past or present?
