Ashley Green Walkabout is a series of thirteen caches along a
walk, just under 4 miles long, which starts in the Buckinghamshire
village of Ashley Green, crosses into Hertfordshire near
Berkhamsted, and then re-crosses back into Buckinghamshire to
finish. The terrain is hilly, but the footpaths are well defined
and navigation is easy. Good parking is available in Ashley Green
(see additional waypoint on cache 1) and cachers may be pleased to
learn that there is a nice village pub awaiting them at the end of
the trail.
Local legend has it that in times of war and famine the Bourne
Gutter river flows. I don't know about the legends, but roughly
every 7 to 10 years the Bourne Gutter does indeed flow and it flows
right past Bottom Farm down the valley to Bourne End. A large lake
forms opposite the farmouse. Once every 7 years you will have to
wade to get to this cache! You are looking for a small cammoed
locking container. After finding the cache, continue on up the path
through the trees, this is the longest hill you will have to climb
on the journey... I have thoughtfully broken it up for you with
another cache further up.
