This cache is part of the Linn Creek Trail: Marshalltown History series. Follow the bike trail to a series of caches highlighting prominent figures in Marshalltown history. Each cache will require you to leave the trail and search for a hidden cache. The caches in this series vary in difficulty and terrain.
George Funk
Coach George Funk led the MHS boys’ basketball team to ten state tournaments, winning the championship in 1966. Funk coached at MHS from 1963 – 1989 and served as its athletic director from 1968 – 1999. The basketball court in the newly renovated Roundhouse is dedicated to this longstanding Bobcat.
George played basketball for the Drake Bulldogs from 1953 – 1956. Funk was recently named to the 1950’s All- Decade Team as a guard. Coach Funk was elected to the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 1991.
