Geocache Description:

There are but a few locations where one can experience history sans “the Man.” - Unknown

There are no admission tickets. No maps, brochures, or self guided tours. No park rangers. No docent led hikes. No locks or barred windows. It’s just the ghosts of miners past and YOUR integrity keeping the location pristine for others to enjoy.

Crux #1. Use what you find but remember…the world is not flat. In fact it’s an Ellipsoid (WGS84.) A distant offset stands vigilant against would be vandals. Distance and time are the means to the end and bearings are true. And yes it really is that far.

Crux #2. Wayfinding. A visit to the “museum” may help. Getting there involves a strenuous hike up a non maintained trail. Rockslides can be common place. It can be bitterly cold in the winter and hot in the summer. There is no reliable water along the route. From the “museum” getting to the cache will require more hiking up an even less defined strenuous, rocky, trail, and then mild class 3 (YDS) scrambling (there is some exposure and a fall may cause serious injury). Keep in mind your location when you try to acquire satellite lock. This will play a factor in the accuracy of your displayed coordinates.

There are no convenience stores at the corner, no gas stations, no light poles with magnetic hide-a-key caches, and 4WD is needed to get to the “trailhead.” Or it’s just a longer walk up the “road.” Yes… this cache is difficult. Yes… it will take some common sense and exploration to eventually find it. And Yes… it will require more effort and expense than a normal cache. Estimated times to “find” starting from the trailhead: Dash n’ cache crowd… 4-6 hours. For the average… 8-10. For the truly curious… pack in and spend the night… you won’t regret it! The cache is a plastic container with a light green lid. Logbook, pencils, and many valuable trinkets enclosed.
