Die Mergelgrube Hondelage
Ein Fenster in die Ur-Zeit vor 185 Mio. Jahren
Nördlich und in einigen hundert Metern Entfernung von Hondelage liegt die ehem. Mergelkuhle von Hondelage.
Die Mergelkuhle ist Bestandteil eines geschützten Biotops und befindet sich im geologischem Sinne am Rande der „Hondelager Juramulde“.
Die Grube an sich hat sich durch Pflege- und Naturschutzmaßnahmen zu einem wichtigen und schützenswertem Kleinod für Flora und Fauna entwickelt.
Die alte Mergelgrube ist eingezäunt und nicht zugänglich, es werden dort wichtige Maßnahmen zur Pflege des Biotops durchgeführt.
Am Rand der Grube ist ein sehr schönes 8 m langes Profil im Posidonienschiefer freigelegt, das durch eine große Informationstafel erläutert wird.
Vor dem eingezäunten Bereich der alten Mergelkuhle wurde in einem Bereich von ca. 10 m² der Oberboden entfernt und der Posidonienschiefer freigelegt.
Hier kann nach Fossilien gesucht werden.
Die Grube ist Eigentum des Förderkreises Umwelt- und Naturschutz Hondelage e. V. (FUN; Wilhelmshöhe 14, 30108 Braunschweig) der auch Führungen anbietet.
Fossilien aus dem Posidonienschiefer sind im Naturhistorischen Museum Braunschweig
und im Geopark-Informationszentrum in Königslutter ausgestellt.
Um diesen Cache loggen zu dürfen, macht bitte ein Bild von Euch mit GPS an der Infotafel und stellt das Bild in Euren Log mit ein.
Des weiteren müsst ihr noch zwei Fragen beantworten:
1. Wo befand sich das Gebiet (Geographisch) um Hondelage zur Jurazeit?
2. Wieviele Arten der Gattungen der „Ammoniten“ gab es zur Jurazeit?

The Mergelkuhle of Hondelage.
The Mergelkuhle is a component of a protected biotope and is in the geological sense at the edge „of the Hondelager Jurassic time hollow “.

The old Mergelgrube is enclosed and not accessible, it there important measures for the care of the biotope is accomplished.
At the edge of the pit a very beautiful 8 m long profile is opened in the Posidonienschiefer, which is described by a large information board.
Before the enclosed range of the old Mergelkuhle within a range from approx. 10 m ² the surface was removed and the Posidonienschiefer was opened.
Here can be searched for fossils. The pit is property of the promotion circle environmental and nature protection Hondelage registered association (FUN; Wilhelm height 14, 30108 Braunschweig) also of the guidance offers.
To log this cache you must:
picture with GPS of you before the infoboard as an attachment and in your log also.
And answer these two questions (do not put answers in log):
Question 1: Where was the place Hondelage (Mergelgrube) during the (Jura zeit) Jurassic time period?
Question 2: Approximately how many kinds of Ammonits were there?
