Is the White River Still White? Traditional Cache
wasian: This fun cache has certainly served us well for a long, long time, but SAFETY trumps all forms of activity and geocaching is no exception. Continuously deteriorating conditions around ground zero have forced us to archive it.
Thanks to all who contributed to the concept, helped to maintain it, and spread the word over the years.

A black bison tube (bring a writing utensil) near the White River in Sumner, WA. Across the street from a well stocked source for caching supplies. A brief walk to GZ including a couple of short slopes.
Increase difficulty rating from 3 to 3.5 based on recent finders' recommendation. (8/4/13) This is usually not a park and grab. Plan to spend a bit of time here.
This general area used to be the home of a local favorite cache called "Is The White River Really White?". After it disappeared and was archived, the cache owners were gracious enough to open the area to another cache. You will be pleasantly surprised at the privacy you will have in this location unless there happens to be someone fishing when you arrive.
The White River begins in the Emmons Glacier area of Mt Rainier above Sunrise in the White River campground. Its journey is not a long one but is unique like its name. The glacier melt that feeds the White River is filled with volcanic silt that gives the grayish white color of the water. It is darker and lighter at various times throughout the year. Near the end of its journey, before joining the Puyallup River (which also originates on Mt. Rainier), it passes through the town of Sumner, WA. Sumner is the home of several caches by the famous Duhawks!
This is our first cache. We must admit that the idea is not original with us. It is a variation on a memorable cache we enjoyed finding on a recent cross country drive. Thanks, R.D.! For some with an extra measure of "geosense", the difficulty rating may actually be less. The terrain rating considers the possibility of "slippery when wet" or muddy conditions.
A few caveats (and hints):
Please be "gentle" with the cache and its environment. Let's be "eco-sensitive". Leave the area as you found it. No bushwhacking required. A few "prickly" bushes in the area. No need to go there.
Use extreme caution along any river, especially with children. No need to go there.
We strongly recommend that you do NOT attempt this cache during hours of darkness.
As always, please replace the cache exactly as you found it.
Enjoy the location and "Happy Caching!".
A hearty congratulations to 2Cougs for FTF!!! Way to go, Scott and Lorry!
