Un poco de Historia de Vilassar de Mar:

El Molino y la Rajoleria Robert son hallazgos arquitectónicos que nos demuestran que la villa tiene un origen prehistórico. También hace falta destacar la época romana, de fuerte intensidad en el término, habiéndose encontrado restos como el yacimiento de can Vilalta de gran valor histórico. En la época medieval los habitantes vivieron protegidos y fortificados con edificaciones como el Castillo de Vilassar de Dalt, documentado desde el año 978.

Labradores-pescadores de Vilassar de Dalt y Cabrils se instalaron en la costa hacia finales del siglo XV. Esto dio lugar al primer vecindario, constituido por tres familias labradoras. El primer documento escrito donde encontramos el vecindario de la villa data del 1606.

El año 1726 los habitantes consiguen una licencia para construir una iglesia, con la visita al término del obispo de Barcelona. La iglesia se consagró al 1745 y se convirtió en parroquia independiente el 1779. Fue el 1784 cuando Vilassar de Mar consiguió separarse del núcleo originario y convertirse en municipio independiente, con casi bueno mil habitantes.

A partir del siglo XIX la economía se estableció en el entorno de la marina de vela con la reestructuración de la villa. Se construyeron fragatas, bergantinos y otros barcos de vela. Con renombre en el continente de capitanes y pilotos vilassarencs el término adquiere una pujanza económica llegando a los 3.000 habitantes. La población de Vilassar de Mar continúa creciente durante el siglo XX, llegando a sus actuales 14.561 habitantes.

Can Bassa es un edificio de gran interés proyectado por un hijo de Vilassar de Mar: Eduard Ferrés, en 1899. Es una de sus primeras obras que se inscribe plénamente en la corriente modernista vigente en la época. Destaca su exuberante decoartibismo, bien representado en la fachada, con relieves esculpidos dentro de un repertorio ornamental de inspiracion floral de raíces medievalistas, y de grabados que decoran los planos lisos. Pueden observarse motivos iconográficos americanos (un hombre bebiendo mate), así como una variedad del escudo de Vilassar de Mar. Es remarcable el trabajo de forja realizado en la reja de cierra el patio.

La casa es conocida con el nombre de Can Bassa por su primer propietario, Pere Sitges Bassa, que hizo fortuna en América.

A Brief History of Vilassar de Mar:
