Another dead end micro, but not what you expect. Cache has no room
for more than a log, so bring your own pen/pencil. No bushwhacking
or need to venture into the neighboring property is
required.
This little road has gone by many names. Originally, it was part of
the main road - Waukau Avenue - and crossed State Highway 44 at
this point. (Side Note: When U.S. Highway 41 came through and was
made a 4-lane highway, Waukau Ave. was cut off from its eastern
section that is still there.) Eventually the road was designated a
county road and given the name County Trunk Highway X. CTH X stayed
that way for many years until the point the state took over
maintenance of the highway (upon prodding by a few companies who
wanted to use the road for heavy trucks between Berlin and USH 41)
and the highway was renamed State Highway 91. When the City of
Oshkosh began expansion of the Southwest Business Park, this little
section of road was cut off to create a safer intersection by
“bending” the road out and making it intersect State Highway 44
perpendicularly. Today this little snippet of a road is officially
known as Maywood Court. You can even still find the driveway access
to a former residence that is now a vacant lot owned by the City.
Despite this little dead end street having no residences, it is
far from a “dead” area. There is a MAJOR muggle alert for this
area. First, the cache is in plain view of the playground area for
the nearby day care. Second, County Mounties LOVE to use this area
as a place to pull over to do paperwork and set up speed traps (the
speed limit drops to 35 when you hit the curve). Third, there are
some people who use this as a park and ride area. I even found a
guy passed out in his car here once. Either way, watch out for the
unexpected muggle.
If you are familiar with my hides, you’ll know you are not looking
for a simple camo duct tape cache here (although I did use duct
tape on this one!
) Please take care with the cache
and log’s bag so it stays dry. Also, make sure to place it
back exactly how you found it so others may retrieve and enjoy
it.
Happy Hunting!
CONGRATS to jstajlr on the FTF!
