At Lizard Point, the most Southerly point of the British mainland.
The Lizard is the most southerly point of mainland Britain and the
turning point of one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world.
This is where the Atlantic Ocean meets the English Channel and
where violent seas have shaped the magnificent coast.
At the point there is a Lighthouse which was built in 1751. It has
a 12 million candlepower beam, one of the worlds most powerful. The
lighthouse is open to visitors from Easter to September. There is
also an old lifeboat station and a signal station. Since 1988 the
land around Lizard Point has been owned by the National Trust.
Limited parking is available at the point. During busy periods it
is best to park at The Lizard and walk down.
The cache is a 350ml litre clear plastic container and is hidden
off the coast path. Due to the terrain where this cache is, I feel
compelled to issue a warning:
Warning: Take extreme care when searching for
this cache. Pay attention to where you are walking. I recommend
that you do not attempt this cache in bad weather (especially very
high winds). I also recommend that children and animals should stay
back near the lighthouse.
When you've found this cache, why not take a trip north and find
the most Northerly cache of the British mainland - Dunnent
Head!
