Magoo's Multi in the Mud Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

mr.magoo: Well this cache was certainly an adventure. It took several trips to setup and then several more to get right after the first folks began the hunt. Then various stages disappeared (Hazards of using a river flood plain [:D]). Overall, it was a 6 stage multi streched over .50 mile of flood plain/woods. I went back today and found that stage 1 is gone yet again. Stage 2 needed to be replaced since the O ring crumbled apart. Stage 3 wasnt to bad but it was also more recently replaced then the others. Stage 4 is still missing from a previous time. Stage 5 was still there (although is had been submerged a few times). Its O ring was also beat and the contents wet. The Final cache (ammo Box) was muddy and had been submerged (great camo) and still tethered with the 1/4 inch steel cable. The contents were bone dry. Love those ammo cans. With me working 42 miles away and the frequent need for maintance and lack of replacement stages, I've decided to archive this one. With my schedule these days its not right to keep a cache active that cant be properly maintained. My apologizes to those who came looking for this cache only to be disapppointed. This is a great area and hopefully now some other caches can be placed here. BTW, I did see the white deer today again as I was walking the cache [:D]. Thanks again to all those who came and seeked.

How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

A secluded riverside multi in Johnson Park.
Each stage is of the micro variety (except the final). If micros in the muddy woods isnt for you, then you probably wont want to hunt this cache.

Johnson Park - NewBrunswick. You'll find parking at N40' 30.602 x W74' 27.969. There are restrooms, a payphone and even a small playground at the parking lot. Worry not, you wont be there long.

You'll find the first stage not far from parking. As you work your way to the cache please take care to return each stage as found to pass on the challenge to the next cacher. This area of the park doesnt see to much traffic and you'll likely have the woods to yourself (except for the deer - including a white one). The cache will take some time to complete (not a cash and dash). Being along the Raritan river, you may stumble upon some odd artifacts that have come downstream at some point in the past. CITO if you can. Also the standard tick warning applies for this area as well.

I've left a Where Alex for the FTF (if they choose to take it). There is also a set of unactivated TB tags as well.
There are 2 Travel Bugs in residence. One of which is terrified of water and is worried there will be a flood. Come resque Team Ekitt10's Kitty-Cat. The Second Bug is my own G.I. Geocacher (yes is does kinda look like HartClimbs or BrianSnat doesnt it).

Feedback on the difficulty ratings is also appreciated. During heavy rain or river flooding increase the terrain rating as appropriate.

Please feel free to elaborate on your adventures as I enjoy a good geocaching tale, just dont give away any secrets :)

As mentioned above, there is an all white deer that is with a regular heard in this area. Dont know if its an albino or what. If your lucky, you may also spot it.

UPDATE: - 3/7/04 - After reading the DNF logs, I will include this additional info. Each stage will have a set of differentials that you need to add to that location to find the next. For example: if stage #1 is at 40' 30.100 x 74' 30.300 and you find stage #1. Add or subract the differentials to the waypoint. If Stage #1 clue is N +.555 and W -.200 then (after the math) you would go to 40' 30.655 x 74' 30.100. Keep proceeding and repeating in this fashion until you find the cache. Each stage should be seperated by no more than to 700-800 feet, sometimes much less. reception here isnt the greatest either. The best accurracy I could muster was 8-13ft with 5-6 birds. Each stage was calculated based on the most accurate set of coordinates I could get but keep in mind you probably wont get a pinpoint reading at each stage.

UPDATE: - 3/14/04 -After many hours in these woods, DiscGolfer has emerged victorious. Seeing as he spent much more than 2 hours getting this cache. I'm raising the diffifulty level to 4 stars. As More feedback is gained, if more think it warrants a different rating, then I will change it.

UPDATE: - 3/15/04 - I added 5 Where Abes for the next 5 finders. Also I printed up the clues to replace the hand written ones. Upon swapping them out, I noted 2 of the hand written ones were off by .002 one coordinate. Not huge (DiscGolfer still found the cache) but note that the printed clues are the correct ones. I will gladly share the waypoints for the stages and the clues with seekers who wish to verify thier progress. I also have pictures of each location if you desire.

UPDATE: - 10/15/04 - Added some clues. Stage 4 is missing, so the clue at Stage 3 will take you directly to stage 5 now. Reception has always been terrible in here so be very patient with your GPS. I waited atleast 10 minutes at each location to get the most accurate readings when setting up the cache. Its real easy to start chasing the needle in these woods.
