This small tub cache is the successor to my first ever hide the Grotto Micro.
This cache may require a bit of fancy foot work due to the vegetation careful to keep your balance (or be extremely careful if you are clumsy like me!)
I would advise heading to the Grotto first then look for the cache! That should make it much easier!
If you don't know the shell grotto it isn't far from pontypool leisure centre, but it is all uphill and at times the ground is quite uneven. There are some fantastic views from there and is a nice spot to stop if you are on your way to the Folly (and the cache hidden there) or as an end destination on its own.
The Grotto & Folly is open May to September - Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays - 14:00 - 17:00. Pontypool Museum is also open during those times (and has free entry on Sundays which is always good)
It is unknown exactly when the Grotto was built, but it is thought it was built around 1784 by John Hanbury. The interior was decorated with thousands of shells and animal bones and although it fell it to disrepair the council was able to secure funding and a lot of work was done to restore the grotto between 1994 and 1996 and can now be enjoyed by everyone.
