Geocache Description:

Fletcher Point is located on Lake Hodges. We gave this a 4.5 overall rating because it takes some thought to get to the cache. We encountered some light bushwhacking. Long pants or leg gaiters are recommended. Although the elevation is 533', there are no maintained trails to the cache, but there are various deer trails we were able to portage to get to the overlook.

Find Old Glory, and you'll be real close to the cache site. At the summit where Old Glory waves, you will find a great view and one of the best views of Lake Hodges and the surrounding mountains. Also at the summit, there's a huge oak tree sitting on a grassy knoll, with plenty of shade to take a lunch break, or just relax and reflect. A Scottish friend of ours, who is affiliated with the lake, said there is a story of a man who had 'pissed off' at the location of Old Glory. We are still pondering what he meant! The lady at the bait shop told us to watch out for snakes, however we didn't encounter any. You can view Old Glory from many points on the lake, but getting to it is the challenge. Good hunting and good luck!

The cache site can easily be accessed on the weekends, Friday - Sunday, at Lake Hodges, between sunrise and sunset (5:00am - 7:00pm normally). Any other day of the week, access may take a rating of a 10 on a scale of 5 to reach this cache!

The cache container is a medium sized plastic white jar, with the opening large enough to put a fist through. Contents:

  • Log Book and Pen/pencil
  • Fish Stickers
  • Gold coin
  • Golf Ball
  • Snap Hook
  • Key Chain
  • Arrowhead
  • Fishing Lure
  • Mardi Gras beads
We parked at N33 04.022, W117 06.342. This was our starting point. Our mid-trip way point was N33 03.877, W117 06.891.
