Another BRIEA Ski Trail cache! Turn onto Egypt Rd. in Alder Creek, NY from Rte. 12 between Boonville and Remsen.
Parking for this cache is at the first of the Egypt Road parking areas, just after you cross the railroad tracks. (coordinates: N 43 25.390, W075 14.079). Take a hike on the lower trail system this time, heading over towards Echo Lake, but before you head out, please remember to sign in on the trail register. This lets the owner know that the trails are being used, and he’ll continue to maintain them for everyone!! And also, please, if you are snowshoeing or hiking in the winter, be sure to walk beside the groomed trails and not in the set tracks. Skiers will love you for this!
As stated in previous cache descriptions, the BREIA Trail system is mostly privately owned, but opened to public use. It is one of the premier cross-country ski trail systems in New York State, and totally free. All the owner asks is that you respect the trails, nature, and use them with common sense. A great deal, huh?
The cache itself could be a tough find in summer, with all of the foliage in bloom, but should be an easy find in winter. And there are no bugs then to boot! So get out there and enjoy yourself, and forget the winter blues. You’ll feel better after a short hike in the snow. Yes, at the placing of the cache, the trails were ski-able already. Stop in any of the nearby restaurants for a hot chocolate after your trek, and enjoy the day.
