Most people don't even know about this area, so we're hoping this cache, along with others that are located here, will help encourage people to check out the Picayune State Forest. There are two ways into the Picayune-through Naples or through Fakahatchee Preserve via Jane's Scenic Drive. Jane's Scenic Drive is an unpaved, but well-used road through some beautiful swampland. Deer, panthers, alligators and bears call this place home. We actually saw a bear here once a few years ago. That was an amazing site that we'll always treasure.
The Picayune State Forest's history is told on another cache page, so I won't repeat it here. Pack a cooler with drinks and sandwiches...bring your camera, fishing pole, hiking shoes and spend the day exploring this area..or, bring your tent- you'll see there is a very primitive campground along a beautiful canal.
Cache is a camoed, lock top rubbermaid box. Log book ,pen and the usual swag inside.
