Geocache Description:

This Cache is available only at night! This cache starts at The Evergreen State College Beach Trail and ends up on the top of a hill about half a mile away. The view will be nice at night as you look across the Eld Inlet To Sunrise Beach. *UPDATE* The cache was moved after being seriously muggled and firetacks removed. They new final has no viewpoint, sorry!

My four year old son Caleb and I hid this cache in order to be sure it would be kid friendly. You will start at around 100 feet of elevation. Go down to sea level and then go back up to around 100 feet up again. The hike was a lot of fun and will definitely be tricky at night. On the way you need to watch out for a few muddy spots.

Your starting point is at the trailhead with parking available. Look for (bright white kid friendly) fire tacks. To find them hold a flashlight at eye level (LCD flashlights work best) and shine it on the tacks. The tacks reflect the light brightly and the reflections can be seen from quite a long distance away. I placed them at regular intervals and they should be very easy to follow. *UPDATE* quite a few tacks were moved to higher less noticable spots in order to be more inconspicuous. With a flashlight during dusky or night you should have no problem picking them up!

The Fire Tack trail starts with two tacks one placed just a little above the other. You are near the end when you see two firetacks next to each other. From there look for three firetacks in a triangle marking the cache location. It is very well hidden to avoid being muggled again!

Always take care while walking in the woods at night. Make plenty of noise so that animals have a chance to avoid you. On our way out just before we got to the trailhead my son says to me, "Dad, I just saw a skunk or something!" I looked up and saw no animals and told him, "I doubt it. It was probably a rabbit or something else!" Well we walked up another fifty feet and sure enough. The unmistakeable smell of a skunk! I look over to tell Caleb he was probably right and see him heaving a massive rock into the bushes. I tried to tell him one of the slow motion yells "NNnnooOOOooo"! But he didn't listen... Luckily the animal was long gone and we made it out to the car unskunked.

Hope that story makes this cache a little more exciting for you. Happy Caching!
