Geocache Description:

The second annual Pocono Shotgun Start Event will now be held on Saturday, October 22, 2005.

For those of you who participated last year, please be advised that this event will not be as extensive due to the rising fuel prices. I will make some of the caches (again, there will be ten), more difficult hikes, but none will be as difficult as Kilo-Walk ;-)

Even if you cannot make the event, you can post a log by completing the ten caches within two weeks after the event.

The starting point (above coords) will just be a place for distributing the hunt information. It is a travel rest stop that is convenient to all the caches. BTW, there is a cache located very near so if you haven't found it, you may want to get that 12th cache in for the day!
Please be there at 7:30am for updates and announcements. Please let us know you are attending and/or participating by posting a note. There will be TBs in some of the caches so please feel free to trade them either at the caches or at the post-event hoedown (the final coords on the backs of the assembled puzzle pieces).

This is an event to celebrate die-hard cachers. At 7:30 we will announce the second-of-its-kind cache hunt in Pennsylvania dubbed the Pocono Shotgun Start Hunt 2005. If you wish to participate in this hunt for 10 brand new caches placed (not yet listed on the website, but approved by geocaching.com) by unimoggers, please enroll yourself (or your team) by posting a note by October 15, 2005. Only 10 teams or individuals may play, so sign up soon. Your team may have as many people as you wish so feel free to post a note if ten teams are created without you. You do not have to participate in the hunt to log a find at the start point.

How does this Pocono Shotgun Start Hunt work? We will give the first coords of the first cache at 7:45am ONLY to those 10 teams who have enrolled as participants. These first coords will be communicated via a cache page that will take you to a new cache that will be your FTF. You will collect puzzle pieces and a new cache page in an envelope with your team name on it from each subsequent cache. You will continue to pick up a sealed envelope with pieces of your puzzle at each cache, gradually assembling your puzzle. You'll also be able to log your visit at each cache site for a "find" IMMEDIATELY AFTER THEY ARE ANNOUNCED TO THE GENERAL GEOCACHING PUBLIC ON MONDAY, October 24, 2005. You'll know which puzzle piece in each cache belongs to you because the envelopes are clearly labeled. Everyone will have a different start point and a similar route. When you gather all puzzle pieces and assemble it, the coords to the final tenth cache appear on the back on some of the assembled pieces.

If you wish to trade trinkets at each cache, please do. There will be plenty of room in each cache.

The caches are not all that hard to find but it may take, and probably will take, all teams an entire day to complete all 10 caches. At that final cache I will have prizes for all participants and special awards for the FTF and two runners-up. There will also be a barbeque (see my previous logs for more info).

To participate you MUST log (as a "note") that you will be taking part in this event either as a Pocono Shotgun Start Breakfast attendee and/or Pocono Shotgun Start Hunt participant.

Regarding the Pocono Shotgun Start Hunt: Please stay on all the marked trails and follow all park rules and regulations. Do not enter any park illegally or trespass on any private property. There will be no running with scissors.

We strongly suggest you use your MapSend, MapSource, or similar GPSr mapping features because there are no hints!

Be prepared for all types of trails, from a single star to a three star. You will need no other special equipment other than good hiking footwear, maybe a rain jacket, and a lot of donuts for the energy you'll expend on some of the caches.

By participating in this hunt, you will agree to these rules. Do not participate if you disagree. Thanks so much for participating in our event!

UPDATE: I have had to change the date on this event due to personal reasons. There will be no other changes so please note the new starting point, too. Also, please re-read the above description.
