Geocache Description:

This cache is not far off a well-marked trail. Except for one stream crossing, which is often dry, the terrain is pretty easy. It's in the Sam Houston National Forest, off the West Fork Trail, not far from the Lone Star Hiking Trail. Originally placed in 2005, it got burned up in a grass fire. But, on 6/5/2010 I replaced and replenished so it's as good as new now! If you go for this one, it's easy and quick to get Lone Star #2 as well.

Good news! I visited and upgraded this cache on 6/5/2010, replaced the box and re-filled/replenished the "treasures" inside. The old box, all burnt and rusted, has been retired. There's a new camera in the replacement box, too. So, please take your picture and I'll upload them when the camera gets full. Also, there's a Travel Bug in it right now (6/5/10) but I'll bet he won't be there long! Here's the original cache description, which is still accurate:

Lone Star # 1 is a regular cache in a large green ammo can with Official Geocache stickers on each side. It was placed on Friday, June 10, 2005 and originally contained: Small American and Texas flags; a whistle/compass; a yo-yo; a small piggy bank; an LED light; 2 AA batteries; a box of marbles; a lanyard; and, a disposable camera (for each geocacher who finds the cache to take his/her picture).

This cache is slightly less than one half mile down marked trails from the parking area at N 30 30.674 W 095 45.413 on Bethel Road. For detailed directions from Houston, check out the "Berry Patch" cache directions. Just continue down Bethel Road past the Forest Service Road 231 cut-off to the parking area for the Lone Star Hiking Trail at the above coordinates. Don't be fooled by the "road" that leads northwest directly out of the back of the parking area. That's a pipeline, not the L.S.H.T. The trail crosses Bethel road just south of the parking area.

While you're in this lovely forest, check out the other nearby caches: Lone Star # 2 (hopefully to be followed by other Lone Star caches); Berry Patch; Fallen Timber; Kelly's Pond; Deep Woods II; Hoopeezboyz in the Thicket; and, Attack Bunnies on the Loose (and probably some other good ones I've forgotten). You could easily pick up Berry Patch, Lone Star # 1 and Lone Star # 2, and Fallen Timber, in one day's stroll of 4 hours or so, maybe less if you hurry, through these great woods.
