October 31, 2009 by the butterfly seekers (343 found) Arrived at the given coordinates to count the layers however this proved impossible with the mist continually blowing in. Will email a photo to show our situtation and hopefully we can still log this cache as a find.

October 17, 2009 by halesquad (76 found) I took a picture and i think i have the answer and will send it on in a private message. It is really hard to define each step of the stone as there seem to be more that run down the grooves of the mountain.

September 14, 2009 by Jaughan (324 found) I'm never too sure of the protocol on these sorts of caches. But since I never did get a reply to an earlier completed earthcache e mail and as it has been two days since I sent an e mail for this, I am claiming a find. Like everyone else, I am not at all confidant about my answer. I got four different answers to four different counts. I will add two other observations: the SWMCC 5 track follows the top of one of these outcrops and when sandstone does finally erode, it turns to sand and there were little drifte of sand along all the tracks in the drying wind. . Thank you for the cache. [This entry was edited by Jaughan on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 7:02:16 AM.]

September 12, 2009 by Sat Nav and Tom Tom (253 found) A wonderful walk around part of the ridge. What a magnificant day for walking. Early in the morning with not too many about it is just why most of us walk! I have sent an estimate of the numbers of sandstone bands, although I found it quite difficult to tell where some ended and others started. TFTC

September 9, 2009 by Djinnsplace (145 found) Got here via Corn Du and Pen y fan - OMG could it be any steeper coming up from the pool in the valley from pen y fan! Came up from the car-park before the story arms weather was sunny and warm for the most part until you got on the the peaks where it was quite windy. Sat on the edge and had a snack and allowed my legs recover they were like jelly by the time I got to the cairn.

September 8, 2009 by Kriyacacher (913 found) Although I reached the required co-ordinates I arrived in the testing windswept conditions mentioned in the cache description. There was a gale blowing and very poor visibility so I couldn't see the features required, in fact I couldn't see very much at all. Most of the visitors to the Brecons today seemed to be from the British Army, and I assume they were being paid to be up here. Even though its early autumn / late summer the conditions were harsh, and it was quite OK in the valley.

Lovely clear weather on the tops on Saturday for counting them, but I may have had too much beer the day before to count properly. Still the walk up from Cwm Llwch sobers you up! Thanks for the cache. Regards, Neil

July 30, 2009 by 0nthetrain (690 found) What a wonderful day I had on the best day of a wet week. I started out from the parking area in the forest near talybont resevoir. I covered a total of 18 miles taking in 7 peaks including Cribben, PenY Fan, the diving board etc etc. It was an awesome walk, spoiled only by the fact the the tourist hordes had climbed Pen y fan.I bagged 12 caches on the way. Thank you all for the efforts in placing these caches in such wonderful areas. E mail sent to owner SL, TFC

Interesting geology.E-mail sent, although I'm not convinced I've got the answer, we had quite a debate over this one on the hill. Maybe signyred will educate me when we next bump into each other at an event! E-mail to follow. T4TEC. Stokesy.

May 30, 2009 by feathertop (6358 found) Earthcaches have been underrepresented in my total cache finds. We do not seem to have anywhere near the number available in Australia as you do over here so it was great to complete this one on this great day in the Welsh mountains. Thanks for this cache and the rapid reply to my email too.

May 24, 2009 by Geeraki (563 found) It was very busy at the summit with the fantastic wonderful Bank holiday weather drawing out the crowds on the summits. Took more time to read the cache description than to actually climb up to the summit We all had an attempt at finding the answer needed to claim this cache, let’s hope we are correct. Thanks for the quick reply to my e-mail so we can bag this cache.

May 24, 2009 by Ezitis (402 found) I have a soft spot for Cribyn: it looks cute next to Pen y Fan! We walked up from Storey Arms, joining in as part of the "ant trail" of humans! I was extremely impressed by seven-months-pregnant Irina and four-year-old Artur! Thanks for the cache!

Probably not the best day to attempt the Pen y Fan circuit but we did and we were proud. I will post a photo of the amount of layers we saw when the camera has dried out...I hope this will speak for itself

May 2, 2009 by The Great Redmondo (1358 found) Enjoying a fantastic day out walking the peaks while attending the IV S. Wales Event at Talybont on Usk. Parked up in one of the car parks at Taf Fechan Forest and started our walk up Tor Glas, then cut slightly cross country up to Fan y Big, then along to Cribyn, Pen y Fan, Corn Du then along Craig Fan Du before making a steep descent back to Neuadd Reservoir and along to the car. Counting sandstone bands caused some debate amongst the three of us but we managed to settle our differences without anyone loosing their footing. Email on its way so lets see if the great deliberation has paid off. T4TC Debs, Paul and Cheddar Pink.

May 2, 2009 by The Flying Boots (1262 found) We've been saving the caches here specially for this weekend while we were camping at Talybont for the fourth South Wales Geocaching Event. We only had today to walk the circuit and was very glad that the weather was absolutely perfect for a walk in the mountains. Visibility was excellent and the views stupendous. Parked near the start of the Taff Trail south of the Upper Neuadd Reservoir and walked in a clockwise direction, this cache being the last of four finds, not counting the Event and the Flash Mob Event later on today. It really is difficult to decide how many layers of strata there is as some that could be one could also be three. We went with the lesser option, email on it's way. TNLN TFTC

May 1, 2009 by scottpa100 (1345 found) The 4th cache of the day whilst doing walking for the first in the Brecon Beacons. And a signyred cache! Is there nowhere where this West Bromwich crew don't go? Great views to the east from where I had walked from and views to Pen y Fan and the west beyond. But after reading about the sandstone and the glaciers being on the north side ridge of the mountains, now I've got to count bands of sandstone! Eeek! Does he mean the vertical or horizontal ones? I'll count both and e-mail the answers for both! TFTEC - great to do an earth cache that is actually a bit of a slog to get to! Right, now to go down Cribyn and get the wacky cache on that crazy footpath on the inside of the cwm...

March 29, 2009 by SidAndBob (1233 found) I've walked past here many times, but can't think of many occasions when the weather was better for stopping to count sandstone bands. A fantastic day to be in the hills, with pretty much 100% visibility and it wasn't even that busy. I just wish I hadn't forgotten to bring my camera. Still, there will be plenty more days for that, so the phone camera will just have to do today I'm afraid. Many thanks for the Earthcache. You saved my caching day after a failure at SWMCC 5. March 22, 2009 by Stuey (3580 found) Amazing scenery today and very warm for March in the mountains. Talk about luck! (When I planned our day trip to the Brecons I'd hoped we would be able to test out our waterproofs and/or cold weather gear and walk in snow! - not that I'm complaining!).We did a circular walk taking in Pen y Fan twice, looping down past Allt Du, and back up over the next ridge to Fan y Big (that section was 7 miles), so I saw the face of Cribyn from several sides. I averaged out my counts of bands and was just 2 out (thanks for the email confirmation). Thanks too for the Geology lesson... really interesting, and it puts the theory from school into practice after 25 years! Cheers, Stuey
