Hercules

We are in the London Docklands close to Mudchute and Millwall Parks. Closest station is DLR Mudchute. The station, and hence the redeveloped area, was originally intended to be named Millwall Dock, but around the time the DLR was being constructed, Millwall F.C. had experienced some particularly nasty incidents of hooliganism. A minority of its fans were considered to be amongst the most riotous in the country. Although these days the club's ground is some distance away on the other side of the river it was thought that the original name carried an unacceptable risk of attracting these undesirables to the area and so the name Mudchute was chosen – you can imagine how delighted the Away team ‘fans’ would have been arriving here looking forward to an enjoyable game only to end up here!

This is a simple offset cache. To find the final coordinates you need to discover some information from the notice boards here abouts. You’ll also find out why this cache is so named.

There is parking around here, but it makes more sense to come via public transport. There are some other caches near here, plus a number on the south side in the Greenwich area. Why not do this one then go across to Greenwich using the foot tunnel.

The initial site and the final location are accessible to a wheelchair user.

The reduction rule

When recording the numbers that are the answers to the questions below, please note the following rule: if the result is a single digit then that is the result, if the result has multiple digits then add the digits together and repeat. My thanks to heartstones1 for reminding me of this obfuscation technique Some examples might make things clearer

Result = 9. One digit, final answer is 9

Result = 17. Two digits, add them together, result is 8, one digit, final answer is 8

Result = 82. Two digits, add them together, result is 10, two digits, add them together, result is 1, one digit, final answer is 1.

Result = 020 7123 4567. Eleven digits, add them together, result is 37, two digits, add them together, result is 10, two digits, add them together,, result is 1, one digit, final answer is 1.

OK? All clear, good lets go

  1. How many vowels played on the front row of Millwall Athletic 1896-1897? This is A
  2. When did hemp become scarce? This is B
  3. What was the highest even numbered house in Chapel House St? This is C

The cache

35mm film canister is what you are looking for, no magnets are involved. Few, if any, cameras here however there are walkers and other users of the area around so be aware of what is going on around you for the actual discovery.

As previously mentioned both the initial and final cache locations are accessible to a wheelchair user, so you might want to think about how that would restrict the locations that the cache itself might be hidden.

*** Please be careful when you replace it so that those who follow you can find it whilst those who shouldn’t don’t! ***

 The cache is located less than 0.75 mile from the initial spot, if your calculations say otherwise or suggest that you need to cross water something has gone wrong – email me through the profile if necessary.

The cache is located at N 51 29 TUV W 00 00 XYZ

T = E – C + F

U = A - B

V = C - F
