This cache has been archived.

Vertighost: Cache Owner (CO) has not responded, so the cache is being archived to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking new cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace this cache sometime in the future (not to exceed 10 days from the date of this entry), contact me via email (vertighost@yandex.com), and assuming it still meets the current Guidelines, I will consider unarchiving this cache.

Please be advised this is not a guarantee that this geocache will be unarchived. Many factors will go into my decision, the most important of which is how you responded to geocachers who tried to communicate with you regarding the problem(s) with this geocache and how you communicated with me.

Geocache Description:

GeoBasics 7

The Travel Bug Hotel California

Trackables are hitchhikers. They travel around the world, hopping from one cache to the next with your help.

The first type of trackable is a travel bug. These items will be identified by the attached dog tag. The serial number on the tag will be unique to that bug.

Everything else falls under the umbrella of "Geocoin". They're usually neatly designed coins or key chain tags with 6 digit serial numbers engraved on them somewhere. (Be sure to check the edge of coins if you don't see the serial on one of the faces.)

Both Travel Bug Dog Tags and Geocoins are not considered trade items. They continue to belong to the original owner no matter how far they wander from home. Since they're not trade items, you don't have to leave anything behind in order to take them from a cache.

Once you have taken a trackable item from a cache, you will need to log its activity online by following the instructions at this page. This will send an email to the trackable's owner updating them on the current status, as well as putting it in your inventory until you are able to drop it off somewhere. When you drop it off, you will need to mark it as dropped off while logging your cache find. Your account will be credited a trackable point for every new travel bug that you work with. This is a separate score from your cache count, and is an incentive to help bugs move along.

Again, trackables aren't trade items. You're just helping them along their journey. If you take one, you MUST eventually drop it off somewhere.

This cache is a large container with plenty of room for trackables. It's the Hotel California because I have permanently attached some trackables inside the container as examples. They can check out anytime they like, but they can never leave. Feel free to write down the codes from them. You can then go to the trackables page linked above and log them as "Discovered". This gives you credit for having touched them without requiring you to take them.

The primary purpose of The GeoBasics Series is to introduce common concepts of Geocaching to new players leading to full game immersion as the players are guided through a selection of progressively more difficult caches.

The secondary purpose of this series is to satisfy the requirements for several standard Geocaching challenges.

The series is broken up into 4 subsections based on the skill level required to attempt the caches within each. The numerical order assigned to the caches is intended to allow a player to easily track their progression through each subsection before moving on to the next one. However, this is not a requirement since the series is not placed entirely in a geographically linear order. (For someone completely new to the game, following the numerical order for the duration of the introduction is advised.)
