Bedimere: Right! So why do witches burn? Villagers: Because they're made of wood? **Please don't crank the lid on too tight when closing it up.**
A little history for you:
In 1913 the water tower was built and was used for more than 40 years. A Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house was built in 1934. The Glendale Housing Project was conceived after World War II and completed in 1952. The I-94 freeway project, conceived in the late 1950’s, was completed in 1964. State Highway 280 was completed in 1972."

"The neighborhood contains the highest natural point in the city of Minneapolis, on which stands the "Witch's Hat" water tower. The water tower is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is often claimed that this water tower was part of the inspiration for Bob Dylan's song "All Along the Watchtower", although this is hard to substantiate. The neighborhood is home to two different community centers, one at Pratt Elementary School and one at Luxton Park.

It also contains the Malcolm Willey House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The house played a large part in preventing its destruction when Interstate 94 was built in the 1950s. The current goal of the neighborhood is to establish an "urban-village" feel - that is, a somewhat self-contained feel in the context of a larger city. Prospect Park also has a few surviving houses from the 19th century.

The neighborhood has an annual "Ice Cream Social" on the first Friday of June, a get-together for the neighborhood with food, music and other entertainment. It is the one time of year when the interior of the water tower is opened to the public, allowing for a panoramic view of Minneapolis from the top."

By the way, the altitude and tree cover was daunting for a while but the GPS'r eventually settled down.

Mama I got your letter today.
The next time that you write I’ll be transferred far away.
I’m leaving Greenhaven’s TOWERs of stone
Where the Latin population will soon be minus one.

No indication I could find it in winter even though gps says I'm standing on top of it. Maybe try again this spring. 1 for 5 today. :-(

We went out caching to show some friends what it was all about after we all gave blood. They REALLY liked learning about geocaching, and this was a perfect find for them, the camo impressed all of us very much, nice work! They even mentioned how cool it was to see the Witch's Tower up close, as they live in the cities but had never actually stopped at it. We really had a fun time at this stop, thank you so much! SL, TN, L a sticker for a kiddie. TFTC!
