Poison Plant Alert! Thorns Cache In - Trash Out! Dogs Allowed Bicycles permitted on paths |
|
This multi-stage cache, along with its southern companion Little Miami Scenic Trail - South, helps you to enjoy the Little Miami Scenic Bike Trail, which runs from Springfield to Milford.
Your journey starts just south of Yellow Springs at the 1st stage coordinates listed above. This cache has a total of 6 Gladware containers heading south and then heading back north (near Oregonia) to where you started near Yellow Springs. All stages are on either state or city public property. You must find these Gladware containers in successive order. Each Gladware container will have the coordinates to the next stage written on small piece of paper and a stack of small Post-It notes to log on if you wish. Be aware that the name of this cache and it’s GC number may be incorrect on the pieces of paper … what really counts are the coordinates to the next stage! The 6th Gladware container will have the coordinates to the final cache, a larger Tupperware container near Yellow Springs, and near the northern terminus of Springfield. There is a logbook and some goodies in this container.
The more physically demanding way between stages would be to just ride your bicycle on the trail from stage to stage parking, starting and ending at the Yellow Springs Community Center and heading south on your bike to the 1st stage.

If you do the entire cache on bike only, keep in mind that you will travel approximately 60 miles round-trip and end up at the same Yellow Springs parking lot where you started after finding the final cache. So make sure to bring a cell phone and/or provide for alternate transportation.
A potentially more time-consuming way, though easier physically, would be to drive and park at many of the places where the trail crosses a road, and hike/bike your way to the cache stages. And yes, we did intentionally place the stages as far away from road-crossing points as possible .
If you decide to go the drive and park route, be aware that many of the roads that cross the trail have extensive No Parking signs. You'll need to park at a park, designated place, church, store, residential street, etc. In-other-words, don’t get a parking ticket and find your car towed-away when you get back!
