Short walk by land shorter by sea.

The trailhead is @ N38 17.675 - W 82 25.316.

This area is gated off between 8pm and 10am. If you park at the gate it will add 1/2 mile to the trek. Occasionally the gate is closed in the off season but generally remains open.

However the alternate route (and the one I would prefer) is to come by sea and not worry 'bout the gates.

The coordinates were taken under a heavy canopy of trees and DOP was jumping back and forth between 3.2 and 5. I don't think anyone will have difficulty locating it.

September 19 by wv hilltop ramblers (3 found) the gps went hay wire and after we'd hiked a while we decided to just hit the woods and go down in the holler for a good adventure with our 6 and 4 year old. We had a good time, and hope to find it next time. [view this log]

July 11 by PirateKatz (46 found) Parked at the parking lot to the right of the guard shack and hiked the posted trail down to the lake. We followed the trail up the mountain until it veered off to the right (to the left was private property and a metal barricade to keep out ATV's). We then followed the hollow down for about 200m towards to the cache. Our GPS's didn't work with the dense canopy, so we just hiked blindly. There were lots of really cool rock outcrops along the way next to the creek. Once we got to the cache, it was pretty apparent based on the previous log entries and the very prominent geography. We took nothing, left nothing, and signed the log. We then continued down the hollow back towards the lake. The terrain was easier with a slight down slope but the vegetation was dense with lots of briers. We followed deer trains when available and it eventually turned into an overgrown access road. The ticks were terrible, so I highly recommend wearing bug spray and taking some good boots or hiking shoes. Great cache, definitely made our day! [view this log] Rock outcrop Flowers
