Turtle Rock lies along Mascot Road between the McBee Bridge (concrete bridge over the Holston river) and the industrial park. You will see it on the northeast side of the road (your right if you are approaching from 11E) and will be able to pull off, carefully, on the northeast side of the road just northwest of the rock (beyond it about 250 feet) if you are coming off of 11E. NOTE: There also is a letter box hidden near this landmark (Box #130795 Turtle Crossing; http://www.atlasquest.com/boxes/clue/?gBoxId=130795). A geocacher recently found the letter box and took the stamp out of it. If you find a cache with a log in it that is full of stamped images, that is the letter box. Please leave it alone, and don't take the stamp. The locals use the name Turtle rock to describe this creature emerging from the hillside. We found that in a tour guide from Ohio the Yankees called it Reptile rock. http://www.ohiobarns.com/othersites/miscellaneous/tn/42-47reptilerock.html Caution: We highly recommend that you only search for this cache in the daytime.
