Once again, the CVGA crew is
headed south of the river to celebrate geocaching within the
beautiful confines of Pocahontas State Park.
We will reserve Shelters #5 for
Saturday, June 7, 2008 to hold the fifth annual Richmond Rally
geocaching event. It's another chance to put a face to all those
names you see in the logs or on the forums and meet some new folks
as well! We've got the shelter until sunset and plan to kick things
off at around 10:00am.

PARKING INFORMATION
The parking fee is $4 per car for day
visitors on Saturday. Parking is included (for 2 vehicles) with
camping fees. Parking fees are required anytime you park a car at
Pocahontas State Park - whether you go into the main park area or
not. There are a couple of drop boxes in the larger parking areas
or you can pick up a parking pass at the main entrance.
The State of Virginia has various
annual and lifetime passes that frequent visitors may be
interested in. Also, Friends of Pocahontas State Park volunteers
can earn a yearly parking pass with volunteer hours.
CAMPING INFORMATION
For those that plan to camp, please let SailorRory know.
He is going to reserve 5 sites and a group site, each site is 25
dollars a night. The only way they will group us together is if the
reservations are made by one person in advance. Contact him at
rorysturm@yahoo.com
WAYPOINT LOADING
There will be several laptops to load waypoints centered
around the event into your GPS receivers! This will save you a lot
of time since there are going to be several new caches activated
just in time for this event, and this way you won't have to input
all the coordinates yourself. We'll have all the gear needed to
load Garmin and Magellan GPSr's.If you use another brand of GPS
receiver, you can bring your
interface cable and a device driver disc and we'll do our
best to help you. We'll be loading the closest 200 caches (10 mile
radius around the Rally), give or take a few, so make sure there's
room for these in your GPS or plan on deleting your waypoints
before we load your unit.
SWIMMING INFORMATION
Pocahontas State Park's Pool and Aquatic Recreation Center
is open from 10:00am to 7:00pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Cachers
who are camping enjoy one day of free swimming for each night of
overnight camping. The park has generously offered all other
cachers to use the pool for the group rate of $4 per person. A
great way to cool off after a hard day in the woods.
MUSEUM INFORMATION
Both the Civilian Conservation Corps Museum and the Nature
Center will be open on Saturday during the event. Feel free to drop
by and learn a little bit more about the young men who lived here
while they developed the Swift Creek Recreation Area in the 1930s
and the creatures who live here today!
POCAHONTAS
PREMIERES
After wandering
around in the woods, what better way is there to unwind then
to bring the whole family to chill on the hill at the Heritage
Amphitheater while listening to the sounds of Big Band Music.
Join us for an evening of energetic, boogie-woogie dance tunes
as the Fort Lee Army Jazz Band performs their repertory of
“Big Band” music. There's a $5 per vehicle parking fee but
otherwise it’s FREE. It's sponsored by DCR's Virginia State
Parks.
