Geocache Description:

Last year, the weather kept us from completing the full journey, so let's try this again...

The Event

Come on out and join BSAG from 8:30 am to 9:00 am for breakfast at the above coordinates for some food and fun as we gather and talk a little geocaching and a little hiking.

It's not necessary to participate in the hike to sign the logbook, but after the event, several of us will be heading up the mountain as we continue our 42 mile journey from Whitesburg to Elkhorn City along the Pine Mountain Trail. You are welcome to join us for the rest of our adventure, or just enjoy the food and geo-chat.

The Hike
This is a 42 mile through-hike along moderate to difficult terrain, averaging 14+ miles per day over 3 days. You will need to be able to hike a minimum average of 2+ miles per hour, packing and carrying enough provisions to survive for 3 days and 2 nights. Multiple water sources are found along the trail, but you will need to be able to filter and treat water for drinking.

We will begin the hike starting at the trail head near Whitesburg, KY proceeding to Pound Gap, VA, then to Birch Knob, VA, finally ending at the trail head in Elkhorn City, KY. Transportation will be provided from Elkhorn City back to the starting point near Whitesburg.

Day 2 and 3 - click here (camping at Birch Knob shelter)
**Please note terrain and elevation details**

Optionally, you are welcome and may join in for any single day or two day hike, but will need to provide your own transportation.

See Bookmark List for caches along the route.
