Geocache Description:

Come one, come all to the 2004 NYGO State Picnic! Mark your calendar and save the date, this is an event you won't want to miss!

On August 14, 2004, we invite you to the New York Geocaching Organization's (NYGO) 2004 State Picnic being held at Chittenango Falls State Park. The park is located in Cazenovia, NY.

A picturesque 167 foot waterfall is the main attraction of Chittenango Falls State Park! Glacial sculpting over 6 thousand year-old bedrock is responsible for this scenic feature. An interesting variety of both plants and wildlife may be found along the trails. Visitors can view the falls from the top, walk the winding trail into the gorge view the falls from the footbridge and return to the top along the small trail on the opposite side of the gorge. Activities include camping, fishing, hiking and picnicking. Pets are allowed with a 6-foot leash, and proof of rabies vaccination.

This will be an action-packed, activity-filled extravaganza! There will be raffles with prizes. The event will run all day Saturday. The camping is very limited (23 spaces) so be sure to make camping arrangements early if you plan to camp, there are also a few hotels and B&B's nearby. As of August 1, 2004 there were several campsites still available.

The event is free to attend; although there is a $6 parking charge unless you have an Empire Pass. We have reserved a pavillion for the day, so it will be held rain or shine. We will be having a pot-luck style lunch.

Want to help?! If you would like to help out, there are several things you can do.

Food: We need someone to once again organize food and keep a list of who is bringing what.
Games and Activities: Have any ideas for a GPS/caching game? Let us know, maybe we can try it out!
Prizes/GiveAways: Consider donating an item for our raffle ! As we get ready for our summer picnic we are contacting various companies to see if they're interesting in donating items as give aways and door prizes. Please let us know if you or your company would be interested in contributing something.

All people who donate prizes (or bring donated prizes), will receive free raffle tickets!
General: We'll need some people to volunteer to help out with cooking, activity running, Travel Bugs, etc.
