This CITO (Cache In, Trash Out) Event brought to you by:

NC Foothills Geocachers

NC FOOTHILLS
GEITNER PARK CITO
Geitner-Rotary Park
Hickory, North Carolina

The City of Hickory has been very supportive of our geocaching activities so the NC Foothills Geocachers have adopted the parks of The City of Hickory. We have committed to clean a park four times a year. This is our way of showing appreciation for the use of these parks for geocaching.

The Geitner-Rotary Park has been selected for our lst CITO event in 2009! Geitner Park is a large park with 1-1/2 miles of trails winding throught the beautiful woods along the Catawba River.

Geitner Park offers easy parking, boat docks, picnic facilities, gazebo, restrooms, fishing, and trails. Bicycles and leashed dogs are welcome.

WHY SHOULD YOU ATTEND THIS CITO?

The City of Hickory Parks and Recreation department have been very supportive of our geocaching activities. The CITO's are a way of showing our appreciation of their support and to give back to the community. Geocachers also have a history of making our "geocaching playgrounds" better than it was when we arrived.

If you are new to geocaching, CITO events give you the opportunity to meet others in the geocaching community. There is no better way to find new geocaching friends and get some tips and tricks from the "old timers".

THE FOOD AIN'T BAD EITHER!

The NC Foothills Geocaches have a tradition of providing a meal for our CITO participants. As usual, we will have hotdogs. Condiments, basic "fixings", and drinks will be provided. Attendants usually bring side dishes or deserts.

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING.

We ask that you bring a side dish or a desert for the CITO lunch. Don't forget to bring your GPS receiver! There are many geocaches listed on Groundspeak and other services. Print-outs of the parks geocaches will be available in case you need to program your GPSr on-the-spot.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS.

* 11:00 AM - The CITO event begins! We will have trash bags and "picker-uppers" available.
* 12:30 PM - WE EAT!
* 1:00 PM - Draw for door prizes.
* 1:15 PM - 50/50 Raffle.
* 1:30 to Whenever - Geocaching and socializing.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO NOW?

We need you to signup as soon as possible. Please post a "will attend" log telling how many will attend in your party. This will give us an idea of how much food to buy!

Please come out and help us show our community why geocaching is important to everyone. We always have fun at these CITO events. There are some great people in the geocaching community. This is the time to meet them!

Cachers and Trash and Food
OH MY;
Cachers and Trash and Food
OH MY;

What a pretty day we had
For this last CITO!

But, time brings changes
And we can be proud of
What this group of MisFits
Have accomplished
Over the last five years

Remember: Life goes on
And, Life is Good

Good to see many old
Friends today
And to meet some new
Cachers from the area

I personal thank you
THE PARROTHEADS
For all the fun
These CITO's have afforded me!

The doggs were great, as usual
And the sides added a few more
Pounds to my plump frame

We'll be seeing you all
On down the trail

Had a great time and enjoyed finally meeting the Foothills group! I'm sorry to hear this was your last event in the area, but thank you so much for letting me be a part of it, I know a lot of hard work goes into planning these events!

Had a great time and I'm also sad that this was our last CITO. Its hard to believe that its been almost 3 years since I met the Foothills gang. One of the best moments of my life. You are all great friends (Peeps!) and I have really enjoyed the events and caching we've done together. Thanks Mr & Mrs Parrothead for all you've done over the years. Your contribution to geocaching and the city of Hickory is much appreciated.
We'll see you all Creekside in the spring!!

Thanks everyone for helping make an impact. 5 Years of cleaning the City of Hickory parks is a great achievement. I will say that Gary (Our Park and Rec. Rep) was kind of disappointed when I told him, but he said he understood. They themselves have had cut backs as well and are currently down to 5 full time Park and Rec. Employees. With that said you can see that NC Foothills Geocachers did make some impact with them. There would be no one cleaning Geitner Park if it wasn't for us. I would like to continue, but to be honest just don't have the time plus we don't live in Hickory. We load up and drive 23 miles to Geitner or Hilton or Winkler, then take all the stuff back home clean up and store for next time. I would still like to find a local Hickory person to work with Gary and continue this fine tradition. It just hasn't panned out, so we may still hold an event or two and I would still love for someone to step up and take responsibility for the Hickory CITO's and Picnic...... if you are interested let me know.
