This cache is located about 1.5 miles up the Sisar Canyon trail/fire road. It is an easy hike with a slight slope. My TahitiEast geocache is planted about 0.75 miles further up the trail.
Troop 103 from Ventura-CA has planted another geocache! We used the excuse of a day hike to plant TroopSisar in the this beautiful oak and sycamore shaded canyon with a year-round running creek. And to make your geocaching day even more bountiful, I secretly hid a small cache called TahitiEast further up the trail when everyone wasn't looking!
NOTE: If you like hikes combined with geocaching, check out our other geocache - TroopMugu - as well!
EFFECTIVE 1/15/2012: I have learned that tree hollows attract lookers so I have moved the cache to another part of same tree. Cache container is now a decon container hanging from same tree. Read hint to locate it.
Information about a Sisar Canyon hike can be found at www.localhikes.com and entering "Ojai" in the Search field. The Sisar Canyon hike info provides all the information about the hike and directions to the trailhead. You will need an Adventure Pass to part on the trailhead as this is Los Padres National Forest land. This is a popular destination for hikers, backpackers and hikers so Forest Rangers do come by and ticket vehicles not displaying the pass. This hike will take you past both TahitiEast and TroopSisar geocaches.
If you don’t download the hike information from LOCALHIKES.COM, here’s directions to the trailhead.:
* From Santa Paula: Drive 8.7 miles NW towards Ojai on CA-150. Turn right onto Sisar Road along the eastern side of Summit School. Where the paved road veers to the left with a dirt road straight ahead, follow the dirt road about 1 mile (past the two water towers) to the trailhead.
* From Ojai: Drive 7.8 miles E towards Santa Paula on CA-150. Turn left onto Sisar Road and follow the same directions given above.
A nice detour between TroopMugu and TahitiEast is a delightful 10' waterfall! The waypoint for the waterfall and a nice pool have been added to the cache listing. At about the 2 mile mark where the fire road/trail takes a 360 degree turn and continues up the side of the mountain, you will note a worn path to the right which follows the creek. Follow this for about 100 yards and you will come upon this waterfall to refresh yourself. This would be especially nice on a hot afternoon.
Another resource about this hike can be found in DAY HIKES IN VENTURA COUNTY CALIFORNIA: 43 OF THE BEST by Robert Stone, ISBN 1-57342-019, published by Day Hike Books Inc.
