Terling, a pleasant Essex country village with a very pretty church, its own manor house and a smock windmill. This series of caches will take you on a walk in and around the village and includes part of the Essex Way path to the quiet little church at Fairstead. The walk back through pleasant countryside goes past the 18th century Terling windmill.

Terling can be reached by turning off the A12 at Hatfield Peverel and is about 2½ miles North West from there.

This is an anti-clockwise circular walk of about 4 miles from the recommended Parking Co-ordinates at the village hall. The walk is generally along clearly marked and well maintained footpaths and consists of ten caches and an optional extra cache. A further existing cache can be found along the route. The main walk can be completed in about two hours and incorporates part of the Essex Way.

Touring Terling caches 2 to 9 contain part of the coordinates for the Touring Terling Final cache. They are written on the back of the logbooks.

Touring Terling caches 2 to 9 contain part of the coordinates for the Touring Terling Final cache. They are written on the back of the logbooks.

Number 10: FINAL

From the Windmill cache, follow the footpath past the windmill (waypoint) (see below).

Follow the lane to the junction (waypoint) and turn left. Then carry on down the road a short distance before turning right (waypoint). After 120 metres turn left along a straight path. You should be at the coordinates listed above. The final cache is nearby.

The final cordinates are:

North 51 48.ABC

East 000 33.DEF

The cordinates for ABC and DEF are on the back of the logsheets for Touring Terling 2 to 9.

To return to your car, continue down the straight path to the village hall. But before driving off, or heading to Rileys for some refreshment, consider doing the Touring Terling Extra cache which is only a short walk away.

Damn and Blast and Bother and Poo.
The day started badly with another DNF at TT1 but moping up the rest of series was fairly easy. Trouble was I set out too late (had to clean out the chicken house before I left) and spent way too long faffing about in a phone box. Result: by the time I arrived here school was out and, on a very pleasant sunny late afternoon, the area was swarming with mini-muggles playing in the park and chasing through the trees.
I paced the footpath a few times but they never went home for their tea. If I'd searched and found the cache a muggling was sure to follow. I departed downhearted. Please donate to STOMP - Society To Obliterate Muggle Presences.
