This Brussels Park is called the Leopold Park. As from
1851, the Brussels Zoo was located in this park. It was
closed in 1876 due to bad management and the city of Brussels
became the owner of it. As from 1893, the University of
Brussels started to contruct in this park a scientific site.
In 1919 the different services of the University left this
area for an other location outside the city center. In the
buildings - in an arch around the lake - are now other
services located. You will see:
- the
Dental Institut Georges Eastman, build from 1933 till 1935, where
the European Court of Auditors has its seat;
- the
Commerce School (1903) and the Institute of Physiology (1895),
nowadays both occupied by the Lyceum Emile Jacqmain;
- the
Institute of Sociology (1901) where now the Solvay Library is
located.
Start at the given co-ordinates. You will stand in front of a
small monument to remember a Nobel Peace Price winner. Notice his
year of birth and the year he was assassinated as ABCD -

over the street.
Enjoy your walk.
