In a cooperative agreement between the WSGA Park Advocacy
Committee and the folks at Discovery Park, we will hold an annual
CITO event on Earth Day.
The maintenance crew at Discovery Park currently needs help
placing gravel on the South Loop Trail, let's show our support for
caching again in Discovery Park by spreading a few tons of
gravel!
Time and place? The CITO is 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.
Meet in the parking lot off of Emerson Street (posted coordinates).
Please arrive promptly, we will be walking about 1/2 mile to the
South Loop Trailhead. When you RSVP, please note how many will be
participating, so we can provide a head count to the Discovery Park
staff. Thanks!
What to wear and bring? Long pants, boots, and water are
a must. Dress to get dirty! Raingear and layers depending on
weather. Bring work gloves.
Swag? Of course! There will be geo-goodies for the
hard-working participants, courtesy of WSGA and Groundspeak.
As an added bonus for attending this event, there will be a
NEW cache published for the attendees to FTF!
Here's a group photo before we started, more people showed up
later!
Here's a photo of the log book for the event.
I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to all the cachers and
Groundspeak lackeys who showed up to help! Here's a few details
about our amazing accomplishment:
- We moved 10 cubic yards of gravel and spread it on about 1,000
feet of steep trail.
- 10 cubic yards of gravel weighs about 30,000 lbs !!!
- That's 1,500 buckets of gravel, estimating 20 lbs gravel in each
bucket !!
- Figure every one "on the line" individually handled 1,500 buckets
and 30,000 lbs of gravel !
This event is sponsored by the Washington State
Geocaching Association. If you are a geocacher in the state of
Washington, please consider joining WSGA. See the WSGA website
for details. |
