Back in the day, way before our grandparents were born, Escondido was the home of Charles S. Cache Esq. Charlie was a local character who liked to think of himself as a great mind, although most people thought of him as a mad scientist . Unfortunately, one dark and eerie October evening Charlie was experimenting with a very powerful explosive when he made a fatal mistake and blew himself across the valley. They never did find all of Charlie and to this day some say that he comes back when the leaves start to turn and the Santa Ana winds start to howl, looking for his lost body parts.
The local citizens were so shocked by Charlie’s demise that they overlooked the tragic fact that there just might be some extra body parts floating around the valley. Extra body parts, how could that be? Well, we have it on good authority that Charlie wasn’t alone in his lab that fateful night, he was entertaining his beloved Belinda , the love of his life. She was new to town and not many people knew Belinda so that might explain why no one missed her.
While no trace of Belinda has been found by all the modern day cachers who have so bravely sought to put Charlie back together some strange things have occurred. Recently a new memorial for Charlie mysteriously appeared very near the sight of their first kiss. It is rumored that on quiet evenings when the moon is full a woman’s voice can be heard saying “Oh, Charlie” and sighing. Could Belinda have somehow come back to a special spot and left a memorial for her love? We like think so.
Happy Valentines Day
