In 1939, noted author, illustrator, sportsman and dog breeder George Bird Evans and his wife Kathryn Harris Evans, his co-author and editor, bought this historic farm and surrounding acreage near Brandonville, WV. The property, known as Old Hemlock, contains virgin hemlock trees and is now maintained in its natural state as a nature and wildlife preserve. Permission for this cache has been graciously granted by the Old Hemlock Foundation, which maintains the entirety of the 230 acres of Old Hemlock property as well as the farmhouse, which was built about 1782 and is the oldest residence in its state of preservation in Preston County. Please cache only during daylight hours and be respectful of the wilderness surrounding you. Please park at the provided parking coordinates. You are welcome to explore the many marked trails and enjoy the abundance of wildlife.
