Geocache Description:

Valakavichiu mound - Valakaviciu(Kuršiu) piliakalnis

This cache is located on the mound – an example of simple fortification system in Middle Ages. It is a hill near a village with a place for food and water supply to keep defense during attack.

In the log book you will find coordinates of another mound in aprox. 0.5 km from this place. Visit it if you have some time and publish your version of purpose the hole on the top.

It is nice to visit it during boat trip by Šalcia or Merkys rivers. You can stay near
Salcia N54 20.178 E24 56.106 ( about 2 km.) or on the junction of Salcia ir Merkys N54 20.690 E24 49.923 (about 8 km if you like longest trips).

If you will go by car from Vilnius take turn to the left in Pirciupiai( Eišiškes road), drive aprox. 7-8 km. and take a walk on foot 2-3 km. or check maps or Google how to get closer: the cache is in about 500 m. from the country road. On the back way visit the memorial of WWII victims in Pirciupiai(you will see it from the road) and have a fun time in country-style bar on the other side.
